Ritual: 3 Weeks
The project “Ritual: 3 Weeks” is a representation of isolation in manipulated belief of intimacy. In a span of three weeks, the artist painted a hundred images with oil on unprimed paper. Each paper is about eight and a half by eleven inches, an ordinary size, and torn from plain sketchbooks. The time spent on painting each piece varied from ten minutes to an hour. The references were taken from internet porn sites and selected by their level of intimacy to the artist, in terms of triggered recollection of physical experience. There prevails an aspect of culture which is sustained by encouraging individuals’ isolation, and manipulating the pure pleasure of communication into a system of commodity. The project “Ritual: 3 Weeks” is not only about the sexual desire, but also a preliminary experiment to reflect a personal point of view by performing an isolated everyday ritual. The installation of the piece is done by laying out all one hundred images with push-pins on a wall.
